Dustbringers
The Dustbringers, who call themselves the Releasers, are one of the ten orders of Knights Radiant, wielding the Surges of Division and Abrasion. The name "Dustbringers" is an exonym the order itself dislikes, owing to the fearsome and destructive reputation of their powers. They are associated with the Herald Chanarach and bond ashspren.
Surges
Dustbringers command the Surges of Division and Abrasion. Division grants power over decay, destruction, and the release of energy, allowing them to burn, degrade, and break down materials -- the source of their fearsome reputation. Abrasion, shared with the Edgedancers, grants control over friction, letting them make surfaces frictionless or sticky.
Ideals
Like all Knights Radiant, the Dustbringers swear the shared First Ideal and then progress through further order-specific Ideals as they deepen their bond. Their oaths are bound up with mastering and taking responsibility for their destructive power and the self-control it demands.
Spren
The Dustbringers bond ashspren, Spren connected to their destructive Surges. The character of these spren reflects the order's fiery and intense nature.
Notable Members
Among the reborn order in The Stormlight Archive is Malata, a Dustbringer who joins the new Knights Radiant gathered at Urithiru.
Significance
The Dustbringers, or Releasers, illustrate that even the most feared and destructive of the Surges have a place among the Knights Radiant, and that the order behind a frightening reputation may understand itself quite differently from how outsiders perceive it.
