Asha Greyjoy is the daughter of Lord Balon Greyjoy of the Iron Islands and the elder sister of Theon Greyjoy. A fierce and capable warrior and ship's captain, she is one of the few women among the ironborn to command respect in her own right and a claimant to the Seastone Chair.
A Captain of the Iron Fleet
Raised by her father after the deaths of her elder brothers, Asha became a seasoned reaver and captain of her own longship, the Black Wind. She commands the loyalty of hardened ironborn crews and is at home among raiders and the sea. Her father trusted her as he never trusted Theon, who had been taken from the islands as a hostage in childhood.
The Kingsmoot
After Balon's death, Asha pressed her claim to rule the Iron Islands at a kingsmoot, the ancient gathering at which the ironborn choose a king. Despite her strength and following, the crown went instead to her uncle Euron, the dread Crow's Eye, whose promise of conquest and stolen Valyrian magic won over the captains. Her other uncle, the pious Aeron Damphair, opposed Euron as well.
In the North
Driven from the islands by Euron's rise, Asha took her ships north and was later caught up in the campaigns around Deepwood Motte and the march of Stannis Baratheon through the snows. She becomes a captive and an observer of Stannis's grim northern war.
