Euron Greyjoy, called the Crow's Eye, is the dread elder brother of the late Lord Balon Greyjoy and, after a kingsmoot, the King of the Iron Islands. A ruthless, cunning, and possibly mad reaver who has sailed to the edges of the known world, he is among the most sinister figures in A Song of Ice and Fire.
The Crow's Eye
Euron wears a patch over his left eye, his "smiling eye," and rules a crew of mutes and outcasts aboard his ship, the Silence, whose sails are black and whose tongues he has cut out. He has voyaged farther than almost any man, by his own boast even to the ruins of Valyria, and has returned with strange treasures, slaves, and a horn called Dragonbinder that he claims can bind dragons to a man's will. He was exiled by Balon for his crimes before returning upon his brother's death.
The Kingsmoot
With Balon dead, the ironborn held a kingsmoot to choose a new ruler. Against the claims of Balon's daughter Asha and the pious Aeron Damphair, Euron won the driftwood crown by dazzling the captains with plunder and a vow to conquer all of Westeros with the magic he had gathered, even promising to wed Daenerys Targaryen and master her dragons with his horn.
Ambitions
As king, Euron launches the Iron Fleet against the Reach and the Shield Islands, seizing them and threatening Oldtown and the Reach beyond. His designs are dark and grandiose, steeped in sorcery and bloodshed, and he looms as one of the gathering threats to the realm.
