The Horneater Peaks
The Horneater Peaks are a range of towering mountains in the northeast of the Rosharan supercontinent, home to the Horneater people (the Unkalaki) and the location of several mysterious lakes that touch upon the Cognitive Realm. The Peaks are the homeland of Rock (Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor), a member of Bridge Four.
Geography
The Horneater Peaks rise to great heights between Alethkar and the eastern sea, their slopes harsh and cold. Among the peaks lie warm lakes that, unusually, are connected to Shadesmar -- places where the boundary between the Physical Realm and the Cognitive Realm is thin. These sacred lakes are central to Horneater belief and practice.
Society
The Horneaters, who call themselves the Unkalaki, are a hardy mountain people known for their large stature, red hair, and their custom of eating shells and parts of creatures that other Rosharans discard -- the trait that earned them their exonym. They have a rich spiritual tradition tied to the lakes and to their gods, and many serve as cooks, soldiers, or laborers in the lands below. Rock of Bridge Four embodies their culture, including a deep reverence for cooking and a complex code of honor.
Significance
The connection of the Horneater lakes to Shadesmar makes the Peaks one of the rare places where the realms of Roshar meet, granting them importance in the cosmological lore of The Stormlight Archive beyond their role as the home of a distinctive people.
