Braize

Braize is a planet in the Rosharan system of the Cosmere, a cold and hostile world that serves as the prison of Odium and the Voidbringers. In the religious traditions of Roshar, Braize is conflated with the concept of Damnation, the hell to which the enemies of humanity were bound, and it is central to the lore of the Oathpact and the Desolations.

Description

Braize is a barren, frigid planet, utterly inhospitable compared to Roshar. It was to this world that the Voidbringers and their spren were bound, and where the Heralds were tortured between Desolations as part of their sacrifice under the Oathpact.

The Oathpact and the Desolations

Under the Oathpact, the ten Heralds bound the spirits of the Voidbringers on Braize. So long as the Heralds endured their imprisonment and torment there, the enemy could not return to Roshar. When the Heralds broke under torture and abandoned the pact, the binding weakened, and a new Desolation would come -- the Voidbringers crossing once more to Roshar to wage their wars of annihilation.

Significance

Braize is fundamental to understanding the cyclical horror of the Desolations and the terrible price paid by the Heralds. As the prison of Odium and the source of the Voidbringers, it stands as the dark counterpart to Roshar in the cosmology of The Stormlight Archive.
