Mace Tyrell is the Lord of Highgarden, Warden of the South, and head of House Tyrell, one of the wealthiest and most powerful houses in Westeros. A vain and not especially clever man, he is the father of Margaery, Loras, and others, and is steered by the sharp wits of his mother, Olenna.
Lord of Highgarden
Mace commands the vast resources of the Reach, the most fertile and populous region of the realm. He believes himself a great commander, taking credit for the defense of Storm's End during Robert's Rebellion, though his besieging army accomplished little. His real strength lies in the wealth and manpower of his lands and the cunning of his mother, the Queen of Thorns.
The War of the Five Kings
House Tyrell first backed Renly Baratheon for the throne, sealing the alliance with Renly's marriage to Margaery. After Renly's death, Mace's mother and Lord Petyr Baelish brokered a new alliance with House Lannister. The Tyrell host marched to break Stannis Baratheon at the Battle of the Blackwater, and Margaery was wed in turn to King Joffrey and then Tommen.
On the Council
With the Tyrell alliance propping up the Lannister regime, Mace took a seat on the Small Council in King's Landing, serving as master of ships and later Hand. His political weight rests on his daughter's crown and his house's armies and gold.
