The Stormfather is the mightiest of all spren on Roshar and the soul of the highstorm in Brandon Sanderson's The Stormlight Archive. He is a remnant of the Shard Honor, carrying fragments of the dead god's power and memory.
Nature
The Stormfather is the spren of the highstorms, the immense recurring tempests that sweep across Roshar from east to west bearing Stormlight. He is vast, ancient, and largely beyond the concerns of individual humans, though he can manifest a presence and speak. As a piece of Honor, he inherited some of the Shard's intent and a portion of its perception, including the ability to grant visions.
The Bondsmith bond
Though the Stormfather long held himself apart from humanity, he forms a Nahel bond with Dalinar Kholin, making Dalinar a Bondsmith, one of the rarest orders of Knights Radiant. Through this bond the Stormfather grants Dalinar his powers, and the two share a complex relationship as the Stormfather slowly comes to value the human he has bonded.
Role
The Stormfather sends the visions that warn of the returning Desolation, oversees the highstorms, and stands as one of the most powerful beings remaining on Roshar after the death of Honor. He is also the source of the Everstorm's natural counterpart and a key witness to the ancient history of the Heralds and the Desolations.
