The Fused

The Fused are the ancient, immortal soldiers of Odium, the souls of long-dead singers who have been granted a terrible deathless existence and who return with each Everstorm to lead the Voidbringers against humanity in The Stormlight Archive. They are among the most dangerous foes faced by the Knights Radiant.

Description

The Fused are the spirits of singers who, in the distant past, gave themselves to Odium in exchange for the power to keep fighting humanity beyond death. Rather than passing on, their souls are reborn into the bodies of living singers who take a particular form, displacing or sharing the host. Each time they are killed, the Fused return again with the next Everstorm, so long as suitable hosts exist -- making them effectively immortal.

Powers

Many Fused wield Voidbinding powers, the dark counterparts of Surgebinding, drawing on Voidlight rather than Stormlight. Different Fused command different abilities -- some manipulate gravity or fly, some heal, some wield other surges or unique powers -- and they retain the skills and memories accumulated across their long unlife. Their ancient experience makes them formidable beyond their raw power.

Madness

The immortality of the Fused comes at a cost. Across the countless ages of their existence, the strain of repeated rebirth and endless war has driven many of them into madness, leaving them unstable, erratic, or broken. This decline is a recurring theme in their depiction.

Significance

The Fused are Odium's elite, the recurring leadership of the Voidbringers and a direct counter to the reborn Knights Radiant. Their connection to the singers underscores the tragic, contested history of Roshar and the true nature of the ancient enemy.
