== Rebellion Against Harren ==<br />
Before the Conquest, the riverlands were ruled harshly by Harren Hoarren of the [[Iron Islands]], called Harren the Black, who had bled the river lords dry to raise his monstrous castle of Harrenhal. When Aegon Targaryen landed, Edmyn Tully was among the first river lords to renounce Harren and declare for the Targaryens, leading the riverlords in revolt.<br />

Aegon destroyed Harren and his sons by burning Harrenhal with [[Balerion]], ending [[House Hoare]]. For his support, Aegon named Edmyn Tully Lord Paramount of the Trident, granting [[House Tully]] dominion over the river lords who had once served Harren. It was an elevation of a middling house to the rule of a whole region.<br />

Edmyn founded the Tully line that would hold Riverrun and the Riverlands for three centuries, down to Lord Hoster, [[Edmure Tully|Edmure]], and the daughters [[Catelyn Stark|Catelyn]] and Lysa. The Tully words, "Family, Duty, Honor," and the leaping trout of their arms descend from his house.<br />
