During the war he commanded Riverrun's defenses against the Lannisters and won a victory at the Battle of the Fords, though his independent action inadvertently disrupted the larger strategy of his nephew and king, [[Robb Stark]].<br />

To repair the alliance Robb had broken by wedding outside his pledged match, Edmure was married to Roslin Frey at the Twins. Edmure was spared but taken prisoner.<br />
