Beric's company was ambushed and scattered, and Beric himself was killed. But he did not stay dead.<br />

Beric rode with the red priest Thoros of Myr, who, after his death, spoke the funeral rites of [[R'hllor]], the Lord of Light, over his body and kissed him back to life. Beric was killed again and again in the fighting that followed, and each time Thoros revived him. With every death and return, Beric lost a little more of himself, his wounds and memories carried over, becoming a gaunt, scarred figure with one eye, ever closer to the grave.<br />
