Wind and Truth
Wind and Truth is the fifth novel in Brandon Sanderson's epic fantasy series The Stormlight Archive, published in December 2024. It concludes the first major arc of the series and resolves many of the conflicts that had built across the preceding four volumes.
Place in the series
Wind and Truth follows The Way of Kings, Words of Radiance, Oathbringer, and Rhythm of War. Sanderson conceived The Stormlight Archive as a ten-book series split into two five-book arcs, and Wind and Truth serves as the climactic finale of the first arc, after which the series is planned to pause before its second half.
Premise
The novel centers on a contest of champions between the forces of Roshar and Odium, unfolding under a tightly compressed countdown of ten days. As the protagonists race against this deadline, the book brings to a head the long war over the fate of Roshar, the future of the Knights Radiant, the bargains struck with Odium, and the question of who will hold the Shard's terrible power going forward.
Significance
Wind and Truth resolves central threads concerning Honor's legacy, the Heralds, and the broader Cosmere stakes of the Rosharan conflict, while repositioning the series for its second arc. As the capstone of the first half of The Stormlight Archive, it carries major consequences for the balance of power among the Shards of Adonalsium.
