Stormlands
The Stormlands are one of the constituent regions of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, lying in the southeast between King's Landing and Dorne, bordered by Blackwater Bay to the north and the stormy waters of Shipbreaker Bay to the east. Its ruling seat is Storm's End, the ancient castle of House Baratheon.
Geography
The region takes its name from the violent storms that roll in off the Narrow Sea and batter its coast. It is a land of dense rainwood forests, rugged shores, and the marches that border Dorne and the Reach. The great castle of Storm's End, raised in legend by Durran Godsgrief and reputed never to have fallen, dominates the storm-lashed coast.
History
Before Aegon's Conquest the Stormlands were ruled by the Storm Kings of House Durrandon. When the last Storm King fell, Orys Baratheon, rumored to be Aegon's bastard half-brother, took Storm's End and the Durrandon daughter to wife, founding House Baratheon and adopting the Durrandon arms of the crowned stag.
House Baratheon
In the events of A Song of Ice and Fire, the Stormlands are central to the realm's politics through the three Baratheon brothers: Robert, who won the Iron Throne; Stannis, who held Dragonstone; and Renly, who held Storm's End. Their rival claims helped ignite the War of the Five Kings.
