Myrcella Baratheon is a princess of the realm, officially the daughter of King Robert Baratheon and Queen Cersei Lannister, though in truth, like her brothers Joffrey and Tommen, she is born of Cersei's incest with her twin Jaime Lannister. A gentle and well-liked girl, she becomes a pawn in the marriage politics of the War of the Five Kings.
Sent to Dorne
During the war, Tyrion Lannister, serving as Hand of the King, arranged to send Myrcella to Dorne to be betrothed to Prince Trystane Martell, son of Doran Martell. The match sealed an alliance with Dorne and removed the girl from the dangers of King's Landing before the Battle of the Blackwater. She was fostered at the Water Gardens and at Sunspear.
Dornish Intrigue
In Dorne, Myrcella became the object of competing schemes. The vengeful Sand Snakes and others sought to use her claim to stir war against the Lannisters, invoking Dornish law of inheritance to argue she had a better claim to the throne than her brother. A failed plot to crown her left Myrcella maimed, disfiguring her face, a brutal turn in the long Dornish game of vengeance.
Significance
Myrcella's betrothal binds Dorne to the crown, and the plots around her reveal the depth of Dornish resentment over the murder of Elia Martell. Innocent of the schemes around her, she is one of the children caught up and harmed by the wars of the great houses.
