Jah Keved

Jah Keved is one of the largest and most powerful kingdoms of Roshar, a Vorin nation lying to the south of Alethkar and home to the Veden people. It is the homeland of Shallan Davar and her family, House Davar, and it plays a significant role in the political struggles of The Stormlight Archive.

Geography

Jah Keved occupies a broad swath of the eastern Rosharan continent, bordering Alethkar to the north. Like its neighbor, it is exposed to the highstorms and its lands are divided among powerful highprinces who vie for influence. The kingdom's varied terrain ranges from coastal regions to inland estates such as those held by House Davar.

Society

The Veden people share the Vorin religion and the lighteyed-darkeyed social distinction with the Alethi, and the two nations are longstanding rivals. Jah Keved is known for its skilled soldiers and, like Alethkar, for its tradition of Shardbearers. Veden politics are notoriously fractious, with highprinces frequently maneuvering against one another.

History

During the events of the Archive, Jah Keved was wracked by a brutal civil war over succession that left it weakened and unstable. The conflict and its aftermath drew the kingdom into the wider struggle against Odium, and the disposition of its crown became a matter of great consequence to the human coalition led by Dalinar Kholin.

Significance

As Shallan Davar's homeland and a major power on the continent, Jah Keved is central to both the personal and political threads of the saga.
