Elsecallers

The Elsecallers are one of the ten orders of Knights Radiant, scholars and planners of great capability, wielding the Surges of Transformation and Transportation. They are associated with the Herald Battar and bond inkspren. In The Stormlight Archive, Jasnah Kholin is the foremost Elsecaller.

Surges

Elsecallers command the Surges of Transformation and Transportation. Transformation, also called Soulcasting and shared with the Lightweavers, grants the power to change one substance into another -- and Elsecallers can Soulcast without a fabrial, by their own power. Transportation, shared with the Willshapers, grants the ability to move physically into Shadesmar, the Cognitive Realm, and to travel through it, emerging elsewhere in the Physical Realm.

Ideals

After the shared First Ideal, the Elsecallers progress through further order-specific oaths that deepen their bond with their Spren. The order is associated with wisdom, scholarship, and careful, far-sighted planning.

Spren

Elsecallers bond inkspren, intelligent Spren tied to their order. Ivory, bonded to Jasnah Kholin, is the most prominent example, a serious and cautious spren who initially doubted whether humans were worthy of bonding again after the Recreance.

Notable Members

Jasnah Kholin, scholar, heretic, and member of House Kholin, is the foremost Elsecaller of the Archive. Renowned for her intellect and her command of Soulcasting, she is one of the most powerful Radiants and a key strategist against Odium.

Significance

The Elsecallers combine the transformative power of Soulcasting with the ability to travel through Shadesmar, making them formidable both as scholars and as agents capable of crossing the realms of Roshar.
